Our spaces, facilities and community services

New Brighton Union Spaces and Facilities

We have a number of different spaces and facilities in our parish buildings. These provide resources and support to our community. Our facilities are all available for hire for community use. We see them as a vital community resource in an area of the city where new facilities are rare.

Below you can view all our spaces.

Chapel of the Waves

A beautiful, contemporary sacred space featuring a wave ceiling, and stained-glass window of New Brighton beach and pier at sunrise. Our regular Sunday gatherings are held here.

The Purple Door Op Shop

Our colourful, wee, homegrown op shop operates out of lovely new premises in Collingwood Street, next to the New Brighton Medical Centre. It is kept warm in winter, and cool on hot summer days by a heat pump, and so is a comfortable and inviting place to shop. It is a great place to browse and find some great bargains, in a friendly environment.

Village House

The Hospitality Room in Village House is a lounge-style area with tea and coffee-making facilities, sliding door access to deck area, double-glazed windows and lots of natural light. Flows into a small library area that can be closed off by a sliding door.

The Hospitality Room is available for hire. Find out more here.

Community Hall

A wooden-floored, hall with lots of natural light, an adjacent modern kitchen and uni-sex toilet facilities, with wheelchair access. External access also includes a ramp for wheelchairs and walking frames.

This space is available for hire. Find out more here.

Community Library

A small area adjacent to the larger Hospitality Room. It can be made private by using a sliding screen door between the two spaces. One wall is a long, ceiling to floor book case filled with books. There is plenty of natural light with large double-glazed windows on other walls.

This space is available for hire. Find out more here.

Community Book Exchange

We have provided a community book exchange for locals to use and enjoy. It is located in a recycled cooler unit next to the footpath in Collingwood Street, between our buildings and the macracarpa tree. We invite people to both bring and take books. This is a free community service. Please help us to keep the exchange tidy and user-friendly!
